It depends what state you live in.
Start by calling a real estate office nearby your home.
If they are helpful, they will direct you.
If not, call a different one.
On warning: This is NOT the best time to get into real estate.
I am sure you have a nearby college that teaches the courses. I went to one that is 30 miles from home.
There are also many online courses, which is great because you have to continue to take courses to keep your license, but being in the classroom is a great way to meet other people in all areas of the business and a great way to start networking.
You must be prepared to work without reward and not get discouraged. The first few years most agents do not make much money and you have to get your name out there.
There is so much craziness in the market right now, but I am optimistic about a turnaround in the next year or so.
Hoping the elections will make a difference.
Depends on your state’s licensing requirements. 6 to 8 weeks seems pretty typical with prep courses. A valid question though is, why? This is a very tough market in which to compete right now. If you have other income sources and want to start positioning yourself for a turnaround, great. But if you’re planning to come in and set the world on fire, you will need a fair amount of reserves, good fortune and staggering amounts of work. I don’t mean to poo-poo your desires, only to fully disclose the amount of work you will have to do. Good luck with it! I hope it goes well.
Where I am, you need 60 hours of class time. It takes about 10 weeks. After that, you take the state and national real estate exams and once you pass those, then you got to pay for your license.
